Marianist College officially opened on Sunday 6th October, with 169 boys housed temporarily in the St Johns Church Hall and basement. Archbishop Frank Little blessed the grounds at McMahon’s site, where the permanent school would be built.
The second term of the year saw Marianist College move into a newly constructed building at McMahon’s Road, which consisted of four flexible classrooms, eight special areas, three science laboratories, large science preparation area and an office.
When the fcJ Mother General was visiting Stella Maris, she gave great thought to the need for continued and expanding Catholic secondary school facilities for both boys and girls in the area. The Mother General wrote to Archbishop Little asking that the possibility be explored of Stella Maris becoming co-operational with the diocese and the Marianist Order for a co-educational enterprise.
