Embracing new beginnings: My Year 7 journey so far

14 March 2024

Max, Year 7

I was very nervous coming into Year 7 because it was a new school and it’s an adjustment going from the top of the school in primary school to the bottom of the school in secondary school. However, once I was settled in I was a lot more comfortable here. The teachers and students at John Paul College are very helpful and supportive, which has made the transition a lot easier for me. John Paul College is an amazing school with open arms, welcoming you into the new community.

Choosing the right school is a decision that can shape a significant part of our lives. My parents chose to send me to John Paul College because my Mum was a past student and she knew it was a great school. Personally, I wanted to come to this school because a number of my friends from primary school were also coming here and I was excited for the opportunities JPC had to offer.

Max, Year 7

I am really looking forward to all the leadership opportunities offered in Year 7 to make the school a better place. I want to put my hand up for any leadership opportunities that arise or volunteer to help my teachers when needed. Anything that is required of me, I am here to help.

I am excited for all of the camps and excursions offered at JPC, in particular the chance to go overseas on Immersion trips to help those less fortunate within their communities. I also really enjoy participating in sport so I look forward to being a part of the SIS sporting teams here at the College, including Football and Cricket.

So far the highlight of Year 7 for me was Year 7 Activities Week and Orientation Day. As part of Activities Week, students spent a day at Tree Surfing, Gumbya World and Luna Park, as well as two days at the College for a Retreat Program and Tripod session. The Tripod session allowed me to learn more about and enhance my skills in leadership, while the Retreat program taught me about faith and community. I found the excursions during that week to be a great way for me to make new friends and familiarise myself with the other students within my year level.

My favourite subject so far is Mathematics. It is a subject I struggled with in primary school, but with the help of my teachers at JPC, I now understand it a lot more and am doing really well in it.
