A journey towards reconciliation: FIRE Carrier Program Commissioning

25 February 2025

The College was proud to host the annual Bunurong Cluster FIRE Carrier Program Commissioning Ceremony involving our 7 sister primary schools, JPC student leaders, FIRE Carrier student leaders and staff.  We were thankful to begin with a 'Welcome to Country' from Bunurong Land Council.

The FIRE Carrier Program - Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education -represents the learning, teaching and our school journey towards Reconciliation.

Students from our cluster schools presented their Reconciliation Covenants and reaffirming their commitment to the Core values of Spirituality, Cultural Recognition and Awareness, and Practical Reconciliation and Justice.

New FIRE Carriers were commissioned with the Spirit of Fire, receiving their badge, blessing prayer, and commitment card. The morning continued with cultural immersion activities, including creating Stations of the Cross wooden crucifixes inspired by Aboriginal artist Miriam Rose Ungunmerr-Baumann and a bush tucker trail created by our JPC students and Living Culture.

We also had Baluk Arts run a small group workshop painting Kangaroo Skin. A collaborative ongoing artwork for each cluster school.

A special thank you to Bunurong Land Council, Baluk Arts and all who contributed to this meaningful event.
