Sport Report: From Splashes to Sprints

30 April 2024

Madi Essing - Sport Coordinator

From the splash in the pool to the sprint finishes at Cross Country, John Paul College’s sporting achievements have been nothing short of thrilling (so far) this year!

We started Term one with the Middle School Swimming Carnival, with Turner taking out the Carnival, as well as the overall House Swimming Shield. The College’s top swimmers went on to represent JPC at the SIS Relay Carnival and the Division A SIS Swimming Carnival. A big congratulations to Josh E, Alicia B, Thalia S and Ysabelle V for qualifying for the VSAC Swimming Carnival to represent Team SIS at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre next week.

Chaminade House was victorious at House Cross Country, where students ran, jogged, walked and even skipped their way around two laps of the 1.5km course. A shoutout to our Year 10 boys for the race of the day, with students running shoulder to shoulder for the full 3km – what a finish!

The start of Term two brought with it the greatly anticipated House Athletics Carnival at Ballam Park, where we were treated to blue skies and sunshine. The whole school took part in various track and field events, all whilst supporting their Houses in their respectively coloured tutus, wigs and childhood costumes. Turner just managed to take out the win, pipping Olsen by a mere 18 points!

Our Intermediate and Senior students participated in 10 different sporting teams in the Weekly SIS sport competition during term one. Congratulations to the Senior Girls Basketball team, lead by super coach Ms. Lochland, for taking out the pennant.

Thank you to all students involved and to staff coaches for all of your hard work. Good luck to our junior, intermediate and senior teams playing in term two. We look forward to students also representing JPC this term at the SIS Cross Country Carnival, the Victorian All Schools Cross Country Relays and the Schoolaerobics competition.
