Celebrating success at the Peninsula Applied Learning Awards

29 October 2024

The Frankston Mornington Peninsula Local Learning and Employment Network (FMPLLEN) recently held the Peninsula Applied Learning (PAL) Awards at the Mornington Racecourse, celebrating the outstanding accomplishments of young individuals in the region. This annual event attracts over 250 attendees, including parents, schools, and representatives from government and industry, all gathered to recognise the achievements of students who have excelled in their applied learning programs

Two students from the College were recognised for their exceptional achievements. Year 12 VCE VM student Odin C received an Excellence Award for his active participation in various learning activities, including excursions, guest speaker sessions, and community projects. Odin's commitment extends beyond the classroom, where he has shown great dedication to his work placement and VET course, with an apprenticeship lined up for the future. His involvement in projects like 'Songs for You,' where he collaborated with a resident of Skye Lodge to write and perform a heartfelt song, reflects his passion and advocacy for applied learning.

Fellow student Molly R was awarded for Achievement, reflecting her hard work and dedication to both her studies and extracurricular activities. Molly’s growth in confidence this year was evident during the ANZAC Ceremony, where she delivered a moving speech at a College assembly, sharing the story of a Vietnam Veteran. Her consistent participation in the Skye Lodge Art Project resulted in the completion of a collaborative artwork with a resident, and she also took on a teaching role, running lessons for Grade 3/4 students at St John's Primary School on topics such as ANZAC Day and diversity.

The Peninsula Applied Learning Awards continue to highlight the importance of applied learning in shaping future opportunities for young people, with students like Odin and Molly leading the way.
